1. Elon’s Custom Shoes
At the unveiling of his new Model Y Tesla car in March of 2019, the billionaire was sporting a flashy new pair of sneakers. The black and red Air Jordans were made by DM Custom Shoes. The sneakers are covered in actual python skin. Musk jumped on stage doing a giant karate kick to show off his new kicks at the car’s launch. While the actual Tesla version of the shoes is not for sale, you can get a pair of the non-Tesla versions online for $1,050. The company will sell you a base pair of shoes for $100, and you have to pay an additional $950 to get them custom made. And the shoes seem to be in high demand. In fact, there seemed to be more excitement over the shoes than there was over the car! Musk’s custom one-of-a-kind shoes are valued at $1500 but will likely only increase in value over time.
2. TESLA Ring
Elon Musk is not known as a man who buys himself expensive toys and jewelry. However, he did inspire celebrity jeweler Ben Baller to create a diamond and ruby-encrusted ring. Baller created the ring with the Tesla name and logo on it, especially for Elon Musk. Baller said he wanted to find a way to thank Musk for creating Tesla and for providing over 50,000 Americans with jobs. So, he gave the ring worth $37,000 to Musk as a gift. This is the first and only piece of jewelry Baller has ever given to any celebrity as a gift. Ironically, just weeks after he gave Musk the ring, Baller, who happens to own a Tesla, got locked in his car for over thirty minutes when the electric door shut on him and refused to open.
3. Jaguar Series-1 1967
Elon Musk is known for loving and driving electric cars. .One of his less expensive but still pricy cars is his Audi Q7. It has a V-6 diesel engine and can reach speeds of up to 134 mph. It goes from 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds, which is fast for an electric car. While Musk doesn’t spend money on fancy things like watches and jewelry, he does love his automobiles. Most of his vehicles are electric. As the owner of Tesla, it would be unacceptable for him to drive anything else. This car may be on the cheaper end, at just $70,000, but it’s still an expensive toy, especially when it spends most of its time in the garage. When Musk was just 17 years old, he bought a car magazine and fell in love with his dream car—a 1967 Jaguar Series 1. They only made 7,772 of these cars, and Musk wanted one. He promised himself that if he ever made enough money to buy one, he would. So, when he got his first bonus check from Zip2 – for $40,000 – he bought himself his dream car. This is one of only 2 gasoline run cars Musk has ever owned and driven. While it may not be his most expensive luxury, this list wouldn’t be complete without at least one electric car. Elon Musk is the CEO of Tesla and owns 27% of the company. It makes perfect sense that he would own one of their $200,000 cars as well. This is a 4-seater, electric sports car. It can go as fast as 250 mph and goes from 0 to 60 in just 1.9 seconds. It has a removable glass roof and they only made 1,000 of these models. Musk intends to send a version of his Tesla Roadster up in his Dragon Capsule rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. When Elon Musk first launched his SpaceX program, he realized just how expensive rockets and rocket parts can be. After running several test launches, he noticed that his company was losing over $6 million every time they launched a rocket. So, Musk refitted Mr. Steven, his private yacht, so that it could become a rocket recovery vessel. It’s 203 feet long and has netting that reaches over 3,700 square meters. It’s currently at port in Los Angeles where it’s waiting for the next SpaceX rocket launch. The yacht itself has not yet been valued, however, Musk expects the vessel to save his company hundreds of millions of dollars over time.
4. X.com Domain
When you start a new company, one of the first things you need to do is build a website. This requires you to buy an available domain name. In case you’re wondering, the domain name “x.com” is not available because it’s owned by Elon Musk. Some people may not realize just how valuable a domain name is. This one is special. Not only is it in high demand, but the Chinese believe that the letter “X” is good luck. Musk first bought the domain name in 2002 when he owned his online banking company. The domain name is said to be worth as much as 1 million dollars.
5. Futuristic Home
Elon Musk might not splurge a lot but he does like to buy real estate. For years, one of his favorite homes was his futurist home in Los Angeles. With its boomerang shape, it resembled a spaceship. He designed the home to maximize all potential space. The house is 3,000 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Musk bought this mid-century modern home in 2014 for $3.7 million. He had it outfitted so that everything in the house operated electronically. There are commands for just about every appliance in the house. However, we should note, earlier this year, after admitting he had grown to love his Bel Air mansion more than his Los Angeles home, Musk put the house on the market for $4.5 million.
6. Maclaren F1
Anyone who is familiar with cars knows just how valuable and rare a McLaren F1 Hypercar is. Musk first bought the car when he sold his company Zip2 for $300 million. He wanted to treat himself to one of his favorite cars, a McLaren F1 Hypercar. At the time, Musk’s McLaren was the most expensive car in the world, worth about $12 million. The car was able to go as fast as 240 mph and had a 6.1 liter engine and over 600 horsepower. Musk decided to take one of his business partners, and one of the co-founders of PayPal, Peter Thiel, out for a ride. Sadly, while they were in the car, Musk and Thiel got into a pretty serious car accident. The car was totaled. At the time, it only had 11,000 miles on it.
7. Bel Air Mansion
As we said earlier Elon Musk really loves his Bel Air mansion. The home is over 20,000 square feet and boasts 7 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. The yard is equipped with an Olympic sized, heated swimming pool and full-sized tennis courts. Musk did treat himself to an indoor screening room as well. The house has 4 separate wings and overlooks the Bel Air country club. It’s worth about $17 million.
8. Custom Jet
To be able to launch humans into space—and as far as Mars—Elon Musk knows he has to be able to launch rockets first. His first specimen is known as Falcon 9, named after the Millennium Falcon. It’s a two-stage orbit lift launch vehicle. It was designed and manufactured by SpaceX. Once the rockets are launched, pieces of the rocket fall into the water. Musk has made these rockets with reusable parts so his company can recover the fallen pieces and use them in other rockets. The Falcon 9 was used in conjunction with Musk’s Dragon Capsule to resupply the International Space Station. It’s worth $62 million. If you’re as busy a man as Elon Musk is, you need a way to get around. So, in 2015, Musk had Gulfstream Aerospace build him a custom-made jet. It was finished and delivered to Musk in 2016. By the time they had met all of his custom requests, the plane was worth about $70 million. In case you’re wondering, you can buy a standard Gulfstream G650 ER jet for about 65 million. This Gulfstream G650 ER is able to run non-stop for over 7,500 miles. It is registered to one of Musk’s private companies called Falcon Landing LLC – named after his Falcon 9 rocket launcher. It has a twin-engine and operates as a business jet airplane. After launching the Falcon 9, Elon Musk decided that he needed to build a bigger and stronger rocket launcher. The Falcon Heavy has a much bigger capacity than the Falcon 9. In fact, it has the highest payload capacity of any launch vehicle in the world. It’s worth over $150 million and is expected to run its third launch soon. On its first launch, Musk sent one of his Tesla Roadsters up as a dummy payload. The Falcon Heavy is actually the vehicle Musk intends to use to bring humans to the planet Mars. One of the many companies Elon Musk owns is SolarCity. It’s located in San Mateo, California, and is worth an estimated $3.5 billion.
9. Lotus Espirit
Elon Musk watched the movie, “The Spy Who Loved Me” when he was just a young boy growing up in South Africa.
He loved the idea of a car that could be both a car and a submarine.
So, decades later, when he was worth billions, he tracked down the car from the movie – a 1977 Lotus Esprit – and he bought it for $997,000.
He was sad to learn the car didn’t really work as a submarine, but he bought it nonetheless.
However, he is now designing a sports car similar to the one in the movie that actually will run underwater.
